Handmade Jewelry as a Gift

For those of you who have never thought about making handmade jewelry for someone as a gift, don’t worry, we really aren’t surprised, because most people haven’t made handmade jewelry since they were quite little – and for men, possibly not at all.  Despite the fact that you may not have made handmade necklaces in a long time, the idea of green jewelry is very appealing to some people, and handmade jewelry doesn’t have to be made of gold or silver – and it doesn’t have to be dug out of the earth by people paid less than minimum wage in conditions that would make anyone’s stomach queasy.

Green jewelry doesn’t have the need for huge holes to be gouged out of the earth so that one or two men can profit while those who actually make the discoveries starve to death in mud huts.  If you, as I am, would like this type of jewelry over the gold and silver that has been purchased with the lifeblood of people in third world countries – and the painful, slow death of nature itself, then maybe you should stand up for what you believe in, and make your own jewelry – daisy chains never bound anyone in slavery like conditions.

So before you purchase that ring for your girlfriend, stop and think about what it really cost for that ring to be placed in a little felt box in front of you today – and if you have a heart at all, get up and walk away.
