Show Your Love With a Vintage or Antique Ring

February 21, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Some of the most beautiful and unique jewellery is often from decades and centuries past. Although not all of the methods of making jewellery have changed through the years, and many contemporary artisans make an effort to keep the old-time methods alive, fine vintage jewellery has a special charm that is very difficult to replicate. The special element that time adds to objects, especially enduringly beautiful ones, cannot be recreated.

When someone is ready to pop the question, the ring that’s pulled out can speak volumes about a soon-to-be fiancé’s level of commitment, thoughtfulness, and even personality. Even if a would-be bride is already familiar with her beloved’s character traits, the poignancy of the situation serves to highlight them when being proposed to. And the fact of the matter is that everyone wants to have a lovely story to tell the kids when they begin asking about how the family got started.

Given all that’s at stake, it’s no surprise many folks belabor the choosing of the most perfect ring possible. Alas, not everyone has at their disposal finely crafted vintage rings within the familial coffers, much less something like a sapphire and diamond ring, à la Princess Di, to sway a pursued lover with.

Although not everyone can afford a ring that costs tens or even millions of dollars, a little ingenuity and careful selection will go a long way in securing you a very special ring. Exercise your taste within the scope of vintage jewellery and you may find affordable, yet ineffably priceless vintage or antique rings to adorn the finger of your true love.

Mothers Bracelet to Warm Wrist and Heart

February 12, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Receiving a gift of any kind from a close member of your family is always a special feeling. The gift itself doesn’t even have to be something you particularly wanted. It is just nice to know that you are being thought of every now and again. Have you given your loved ones any gifts lately? A mother’s bracelet is the perfect gift to give this Valentine ’s Day. Every time she looks at her wrist she will be reminded of her loving son or daughter. Her heart will swell with sentiment and pride.

The nifty thing about bracelets is that there are an number of different kinds of bracelets that can all convey a different message to whoever they are given to. One might gift a couple of name bracelets to their closest friends as a sort of “best buddies” pact. Nothing says friendship quite like a customized bracelet with your name on it! Not to mention how many introductions it will save when you find yourself at social gatherings.

Suppose name bracelets are not your style. You want something with more sentiment. Something that encapsulates a unique bond that is stronger than the most precious of metals. Well, you are in luck! A mother daughter bracelet set sounds like it is just what you are looking for. Never will anyone question what kind of relationship you have with your mother when you roll up to the party with a shiny token of your unique bond forever resting at arm’s length.

You Know You Want a Karma Necklace!

February 11, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

You may not be a fan of jewelry, but that could be just because you haven’t yet discovered the wonders of handmade jewelry – things like handcrafted rings and karma necklaces are beautiful beyond comparison, and left to look through a case of jewelry that someone spend hours creating with their bare hands really does give most people pause.

Having someone make you something like beaded handmade necklaces could actually change your mind about not being interested in jewelry, and watching them forge something and bend a metal with their hands into something beautiful may even make you want to learn how to do things like this yourself.  If you are looking for a wonderful gift for a girlfriend, fiancé, wife, sister, mother, or pretty much any other woman in your life, and you’re not upset about spending money on a quality piece, I can guarantee you that something handmade will catch anyone’s eye, even if they aren’t a fan of jewelry.

There is something unique and significantly more beautiful about a piece of jewelry, and even the most untrained eye can notice the difference between links of chain forged by a machine and links of chain forged by hand.  These types of gifts are not for the easily impressed, because they might cause something like an overdose reaction when you give them something as amazing and simply unique as a handmade piece of jewelry.

Birthstone Bracelets Rock Your Socks

February 10, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Cool kids always know how to accessorize. Some do it with obscure or goofy pins stuck to their clothes or bags. For some, it is their clothes or bags. Others may rock the birthstone bracelets that let everyone know the month they were born in, and how important the rock that signifies it is to them. And still others may use any number of piercings in any number of locations on their bodies.

Say you are trying to stand out, but are still testing the waters of the accessorizing pool. Name bracelets are always a good place to start. They aren’t too flashy, but also add that extra “umph” to your look that could be just what you need. Not to mention that identifying your name is square one of crafting your own identity. Without it, you would just be some random face or a number. Why not be proud of your name and wear it on your wrist?

That isn’t all bracelets are good for though. They also make great gifts. There are even mother bracelets specially crafted for that wonderful woman that brought you into this world. It warms a mother’s heart to receive an unexpected gift from a child. Why not make your mother’s day and surprise her? They don’t even have to be too expensive, if you know where to look. Do something creative with your look or surprise your mother. Either option can be satisfied with a bracelet that is as unique as you are.

Handmade Jewelry as a Gift

February 9, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

For those of you who have never thought about making handmade jewelry for someone as a gift, don’t worry, we really aren’t surprised, because most people haven’t made handmade jewelry since they were quite little – and for men, possibly not at all.  Despite the fact that you may not have made handmade necklaces in a long time, the idea of green jewelry is very appealing to some people, and handmade jewelry doesn’t have to be made of gold or silver – and it doesn’t have to be dug out of the earth by people paid less than minimum wage in conditions that would make anyone’s stomach queasy.

Green jewelry doesn’t have the need for huge holes to be gouged out of the earth so that one or two men can profit while those who actually make the discoveries starve to death in mud huts.  If you, as I am, would like this type of jewelry over the gold and silver that has been purchased with the lifeblood of people in third world countries – and the painful, slow death of nature itself, then maybe you should stand up for what you believe in, and make your own jewelry – daisy chains never bound anyone in slavery like conditions.

So before you purchase that ring for your girlfriend, stop and think about what it really cost for that ring to be placed in a little felt box in front of you today – and if you have a heart at all, get up and walk away.

Are You Interested in Coin Dealer Training?

February 8, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

If you are interested in becoming a coin collector or dealer, there are several things that you first need to know about, specifically, you should try to take a class about coins that you would be most likely to encounter if you were an amateur collector, such as the much famed silver dollar.  By taking a class – or multiple classes – you will be able to identify what coins are worth a serious amount of money, and what coins might not be as authentic as their sellers attempt to make people believe.

One of the most important parts of being a coin collector, or a coin dealer, is to be able to distinguish the difference between an authentic coin and a counterfeit coin, because you don’t want to spend money on something that is not actually worth what you are paying.  Another thing that classes would teach someone interested in coin collecting, is what types of coins are valuable, and what types of coins are not as valuable for collecting purposes – some years and makes of coins are more valuable than others, and just because you found something, like a gold American eagle, does not mean that it happens to be particularly valuable.

Once you have learned about the differences between valuable and non-valuable coins, you will be ready to begin your own coin collection – and gain more knowledge and experience so that you can eventually take the step from collector to dealer.

Studying Coin Value

February 6, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

One of the most important things about collecting coins is the idea of coin value, or the monetary value of the coin – whether this is based on what the coin is actually forged from, or what is printed on the face of the coin, there are distinguishing features of a coin that allow its value to be easily determined, even to the inexperienced eye.  If you are looking at something like gold bullion, then it may be harder to distinguish value, because these different types of forged gold items are not always the same size, nor do they almost ever have the same amount of significance.

The majority of gold bullion is valuable only because of the circumstances of the particular pieces – some come from shipwrecks of ships carrying a large amount of gold, silver, and other precious metals, and some comes from valuable caches of minerals that are found in tombs of highly ranking officials in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

These types of minerals are often harder to price than things such as morgan silver dollars, which have an obvious value, and can generally be easily determined, even by the most inexperienced of coin collectors.  These people are able to recognize key features on the face of the coins that allow them to distinguish obvious changes in value of the coins – from mint condition, to poor condition, and everything in between.  To tell the condition of certain precious metals, the detailed reviews might be different, and the people who judge them are often experts.

How to Collect Antique Jewellery You Can Use

February 1, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Although a prized investment, antique rings, earrings, and necklaces don’t always have to be stowed away in display cases. On the contrary, antique jewellery can be worn to special occasions and formal events, often serving as the centerpiece of the outfit. Elizabeth Taylor would agree.

But how does one collect antique jewellery without owning items that belong in a museum? Here’s a look at how to enhance your antique jewellery collection while keeping it usable.

Be practical: Sure, you might own a collection of museum-worthy vintage rings and necklaces, but it’s also important to purchase items that you can wear to a cocktail party or formal wedding. This means looking for unique pieces that agree with your tastes and style. This also means selecting slightly less expensive jewellery than the items stored away in display cases. This way you can easily wear one-of-a-kind jewellery without looking as though you just robbed the Queen of England.

Make it accessible. Art deco rings in your collection might look untouchable in the display cases, but they’re actually stylish accessories to any formal attire. Place the wearable pieces in a handy jewellery box, and keep the most expensive and rare pieces in a safe. Thanks to classic looks that never go out of style, you can pair antique jewellery pieces with contemporary gowns and other formal attire. Adding a vintage piece to your outfit is also a smart way to transform the plain look of an outfit.

Bring it home. Your practical antique collection shouldn’t end with jewellery. It’s easy to purchase usable antiques when you incorporate them into your home décor. Think of buying antique rugs, vases, furniture, and even paintings.

What do you know about sapphire?

January 26, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Sapphire has been used as jewelry for many centuries. Naturally found sapphires are dug from alluvial deposits. Its blue color and tone make it one of the most commonly used gemstone in jewelry making. Additionally, due to its hardness, it is also used in industrial and scientific equipment.

To kings it represented an emblem of wisdom and priests used it to indicate the purity. Sapphire represents sincerity, loyalty and truthfulness.

Sapphire, especially blue sapphire is one of the most popular (emerald and ruby are the other) and more affordable gemstone in the United States. Blue sapphire is the most common variety. There are other colors, including yellow and green. Sapphire is mined in Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tanzania, Australia, Madagascar and several other countries. There are industrially produced synthetic varieties that are also available in the market.

Sapphire is the birthstone of month of September.

When buying sapphire, remember the three Cs: color, clarity and cut. The intensity of color, especially in blue sapphire, is the most important. Color also plays a role in the price. Clarity depends on visual inclusions in the gem. Look for eye-clean gems. Cut varies from round to oval, round picking up little more value than other cuts.
